How the MET method works
A MET (metabolic equivalent) is a multiple of your resting energy use. Multiplying your run’s MET value by your body weight and the time you spent running gives an energy estimate that scales with the two things that matter most: how big you are and how long you were out there.
Because running MET rises with speed, the tool derives it from the pace you enter, then nudges it up for hilly or off-road terrain, where each stride does more work.

Does a faster pace burn more calories?
Over the same distance, running faster burns roughly the same total energy but in less time, so calories per minute go up while the total stays similar. Over the same amount of time, a faster pace covers more ground and burns more overall. The tool shows both the total and the per-minute figure.
Is this the calories I should eat back?
Not necessarily. The number is a gross estimate of energy expended during the run, not a precise deficit, and it doesn't account for the calories you'd have burned resting anyway. Treat it as a ballpark for planning, not a nutrition prescription.
How accurate is the estimate?
It is a population-level approximation. Real burn varies with running economy, fitness, temperature, wind, and how you carry a stroller or pack, so two runners of the same weight over the same route can differ. Use it to compare your own runs rather than as an exact count.
